Position Overview

Legg Mason is hiring a business executive to serve as our Chief Diversity Officer. This newly created position will lead Legg Mason’s global diversity and inclusion strategy and work with global stakeholders across the firm to create and deliver initiatives designed to foster a culture of diversity at Legg Mason. The Chief Diversity Officer will report to the Chief Executive Officer and work out of our Baltimore, Stamford, or New York office.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Ensure an integrated strategic alignment of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) and business objectives across Legg Mason globally and where appropriate, our investment affiliates.
  • Work with the Executive Committee to establish and monitor diversity metrics, and manage and report out on the results to the Board of Directors.
  • Chair the Executive Diversity Counsel (EDC) and prioritize budget resources for enhancing diversity and inclusion.
  • Partner with HR and global leaders to implement diversity and inclusion strategies, programs, policies, and metrics that will attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce and foster an environment of inclusion.
  • Partner with Corporate Social Responsibility and Philanthropy on diversity strategy and connection to local communities and sustainability initiatives.
  • Advance the global expansion of employee resource groups (ERGs) and leverage them to drive business initiatives.
  • Keep current on diversity programs and developments by maintaining contact with other leaders in the field and share best practices and trends across the firm and with our Affiliates.
  • Review supplier relationships and make recommendations to ensure a diverse representation.
  • Identify and manage relationships with external partnerships and key diversity organizations on behalf of Legg Mason.
  • Represent Legg Mason at conferences, industry events, etc. to promote Legg Mason as a D&I employer of choice.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated success in building and delivering a comprehensive diversity and inclusion strategy at a global organization with proven results
  • 10+ years experience in business management or HR. Familiarity with Financial Services industry is a plus.
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders and drive business objectives
  • Proven project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to work within all levels of the organization
  • Fast learner who is agile to change
  • Executive presence and ability to build followership
