Position Overview

Legg Mason's Alternative Distribution Strategies team is currently seeking a Product Analyst for its Portfolio Analytics/Competitive Intelligence group in either Baltimore, MD, Stamford, CT, or New York City.

 

The Product Analyst performs and delivers consultative and solution-based portfolio and product analysis to internal and external clients.   This individual is responsible for developing and delivering investment related insights to be used for sales.  The Analyst will represent the Portfolio Analytics Group on cross-functional initiatives and collaborates with Compliance, Corporate Technology, and Sales Analytics groups on data and analytics needs.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Conducting and delivering consultative portfolio review and solutions-based analysis to our clients (advisor and/or home office investment gatekeeper) including:
    • Integrating analytical metrics to measure product efficacy – both from an internal and client point of view
    • Assessing the efficacy of current offerings on client’s investment platform and introducing new offerings
  • Leading and/or partnering with Legg Mason's Product Specialists in the production of investment insights or analysis of investment themes:
    • The scope of investment research can be broad, ranging from asset allocation topics to specific investment sub-asset classes and across Legg Mason and competitors’ products
    • These insights will be utilized by our Sales organization, in product training and/or marketing collateral
  • Responsible for leading the effort to improve the quality of competitive investment analytical templates and services and creation of new ones:
    • Includes integrating risk and factor analysis and investment concepts (forecasting, scenario analysis, etc.) into the templates
    • Contributes to the ideation, creation, development, implementation and the broad communication of a new or enhanced analytical services

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • CFA or MBA desired; CAIA is a plus
  • 5-7 years of experience working in an asset management or investment advisory firm; ideally, with specific responsibilities such as building asset allocation models, portfolio construction and/or investment due diligence
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) across a broad audience, which may include clients, Sales, Senior Management, Marketing and/or support areas
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Previous experience using Morningstar Direct and/or mpiStylus Pro preferred
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Passion for learning and investments
