Position Overview

Legg Mason is hiring a Jr. Paralegal for its Legal-Mutual Funds team in New York, NY or Stamford, CT.  This position is perfect for a recent college grad who is interested in getting into legal or someone with 1-3 years' experience as a Paralegal.


Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Registration Statement Amendments on Form N-1A.  This includes the following:
    • Working on a team of legal specialists and attorneys to prepare drafts of revised prospectuses and statements of additional information
    • Utilizing an automated document management system to prepare summary and statutory prospectuses
    • Coordinating and evaluating the information provided by various Legg Mason departments
    • Proofreading documents
    • Overseeing communications and correspondence with financial printer
    • Evaluating for accuracy typeset and EDGARized versions of amendments
    • Maintaining records pertaining to registration statements
    • Reviewing, evaluating and processing comments received from outside counsel, independent auditors and in-house attorneys on summary prospectuses, statutory prospectuses, statements of additional information and Part C of Form N-1A


Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in English/Journalism, Finance, Pre-Law, or related major. Perfect for a recent college grad!
  • Advanced computer skills required; ability to perform tasks in MSWord, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; seeking a candidate that is eager to work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment since the job involves working closely with and coordinating with others both internally within the Legal department and externally within Legg Mason and outside of Legg Mason
  • Must be organized, efficient and detail-oriented
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to think independently and exercise good judgment
  • Experience in the financial services industry a plus
  • Experience with preparing and submitting any type of SEC regulatory filings a plus (including, but not limited to, the following: N-SARs, N-CSRs, Form N-1A, Form N-2, Form N-14, N-PX, 10-K, 8-K, 11-K, 13F-HRs);
  • Manager willing to train candidate on the applicable 1940 Act subject matter if the above-referenced prerequisites are met
