Our SMA Product Management team, located in Stamford, CT, is currently seeking an experienced Associate Product Manager. This team is responsible for the product management and development of Legg Mason’s SMA business strategy. This product management role requires a deep understanding of the distribution of retail separately managed accounts and will have material advisor facing sales and service responsibilities in support of Legg Mason’s US Distribution effort.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

Product Support:

  • Serve as a technical expert on all things related to our SMA business with an ability to clearly explain the SMA vehicle, including a strong understanding of the operations and data requirements involved in managing the product line
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the intermediary landscape, the needs of our clients, and how Legg Mason differentiates ourselves relative to the competition
  • Partner with Product Marketing, Training and Sales to support new and existing offerings ensuring the positioning of the SMA business is clear and consistent throughout the firm
  • Assist new investment affiliates in establishing operations to support SMA product development
  • Partner with investment affiliates in support of implementing product related changes
  • Anticipate new business needs to ensure an on-going and effective operating environment

Sales Support:

  • Handle SMA related advisor inquiries; research and resolve issues to ensure a consistent client experience for both internal and external clients
  • Share product information with business partners responsible for producing and delivering content to external audiences
  • Develop and present ideas organizationally aimed at promoting Legg Mason’s SMA offering
  • Proactively communicate and educate sales on new product developments, product positioning and industry trends
  • Serve as an advocate for the SMA business, and play a significant role in the sales & client servicing of our product offering
  • Travel with Sales teams and act as product specialist on behalf of Legg Mason SMAs

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • 7+ years relevant industry experience
  • 5+ years SMA experience required; product management experience strongly preferred;
  • Strong project management skills with a demonstrated understanding of managed solutions;
  • Technical understanding of SMAs; product development and operational experience a plus;
  • Knowledge of intermediary landscape, platform experience and research background a plus;
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint, written communication and superior oral presentation skills;
  • Strong investment acumen across equity, fixed income and multi-asset class strategies;
  • Ability to drive business development initiatives with minimal supervision;
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Series 7, 63/65 or 66 required;
  • Occasional travel required
