Position Overview

Legg Mason is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Client Operations Manager to join our team in London.

 

You will be responsible for ensuring that the total client onboarding experience is prompt and efficient by coordinating and managing the implementation of the arrangement (Intermediary Onboarding) through collaboration with internal cross-functional business partners (sales, account services, product, legal, compliance, finance, operations and others).

 

You will perform related project management, complete necessary contracts, secure and collect internal approvals, regulatory risk management, various database updates, and complete reporting requests. Product lines supported are UCITS Funds, AIM Funds, variable investment trusts and alternatives.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Responsible for the end to end intermediary lifecycle process (on-boarding, ongoing risk management, termination) in Europe (the Client Operations Group drives/leads this process as the central management coordinator and involves close cooperation with internal cross-functional team members (compliance, finance, legal, sales, account services, investment affiliates, marketing, product, operations, etc.) and the client as appropriate).
  • Provide pre/post support on intermediary arrangements internally and to external clients.
  • Oversight and report on existing arrangements to ensure business objectives were met.
  • Contract review and interpretation (initial contract review to insure business terms are included/correct and identifying any internal pricing approvals needed). Draft fee schedules of the contracts.
  • Assist with inquiries and provide solutions to issues that may arise (internal and with the client).
  • Assist clients with contractual fund availability and pricing/rebate/service fee questions (internal and external).
  • Assist sales, operations, finance and others with contractual inquiries related to pricing, processes, platform availability, and other regulatory matters.
  • Obtain necessary internal contract sign-offs and arrange contract executions.
  • Substantial collaboration with business partners and internal parties to move deals forward to completion.
  • Provide ad hoc and routine reporting including:
    • executive summary of completed arrangements
    • department metrics
    • work-in-progress
    • product availability and fee summaries for sales/management
    • selected fund board reporting
  • Follow, review, and continually update standardized protocols surrounding contract content and internal department procedures:
    • Definition and documentation of cross functional roles and responsibilities pertaining to intermediary lifecycle.
    • Oversight and ownership of the Client Onboarding function (Salesforce)
    • Development and maintenance of online procedure manuals (SharePoint)
  • Accurate and timely entry, maintenance and retention of all agreements, documents, and key data points in contract management system (Novatus).
  • Handle large-scale time sensitive legal/regulatory or other projects.
  • Respond to internal and regulatory audit queries.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing due diligence reviews of ~600 financial intermediary business partners to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with policies and best practices.  Includes escalation and resolution of any identified issues with compliance, legal, sales and the client.
  • Lifecycle review/termination of business arrangements.
  • Preparation and presentation to senior management or sales/other groups of reports and updates,

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • 5-7+ years’ experience in the asset management or similar financial services industry experience desired;

 

Preferred/Nice to Have:

  • Related Bachelor's degree, with an advanced Masters/Postgraduate degree or professional qualification in the asset management industry.
  • Knowledge of industry screening systems an advantage (e.g. LexisNexis).
  • Understanding of the current challenges facing the industry (increased regulation, Brexit implications, pressure on passive asset management regime, etc.).
  • Fluency in a European language other than English.
