Position Overview

Legg Mason is seeking a Senior Business Strategist for our Global Fiduciary Platform (GFP) team. This position will be based in  Baltimore, MD or New York Times Square office.


The Senior Business Strategist role will be responsible for coordinating strategic initiatives related to Legg Mason’s global fund business supported by the Global Fiduciary Platform (GFP) and Legg Mason’s global fund administration team. Duties include oversight of policies and practices related to fund accounting and custody service providers, development, design and implementation of a “best practices” risk based control environment, involvement in strategic initiatives (regulatory, product, departmental, technology, etc.), coordinating and executing day to day operational requirements, and supporting internal clients, as required.


This role will also be responsible for identifying root causes and translating complex processes into clear, understandable and actionable steps for the team and clients. This role will be a collaborative problem solver incorporating process improvement, project management and training expertise in operations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Expertly identify, address and resolve complex technical organization and operational issues. Design and execute “best practices” programs.
  • Development of a change management strategy for GFP’s transformational projects, This position will interact with senior-level executives across the organization to gain their alignment and support for the effective implementation and long-term sustainability of GFP initiatives.
  • Focus on Continuous improvement of operational processes and procedures of the entire GFP team
  • Ensure that policies, procedures, practices and controls are communicated, understood and in compliance
  • Focus on operational streamlining, manual touch point reduction and automation
  • Responsible for development and ongoing oversight of a change management curriculum to build capability more broadly across GFP
  • Communicate at all levels including Executive Mgmt, Fund Boards, and Regulatory Agencies.
  • Support/Lead key initiatives, internal clients, investment affiliates, etc., as required
  • Limited, but required travel both within and outside of the U.S.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience



  • Deep knowledge of asset management, fund accounting, custody and administration,
  • Will have worked with or at financial services (preferably asset management) firms developing operational controls/risk mitigation programs (vendor oversight controls, operational risk assessments, governance structure review, etc.)
  • Proven track record in helping asset management firms deploy solutions for outsourcing oversight and assurance
  • Public accounting experience desired but not necessary

  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Education and Experience


  • Degree in Accounting or Finance related field – CPA a plus
  • Experience managing teams
  • 7+ years’ experience working in the asset management industry
  • Public accounting experience or regulatory experience
