Position Overview

The Director of Business Development will focus on the distribution of the mutual fund ranges of Legg Mason and its affiliates. Given the particular build-out situation, the position offers the unique opportunity of contributing strongly to develop the business in Switzerland for a leading global asset management firm, especially regarding institutional clients. Accordingly, the position requires a person with a pronounced business acumen demonstrating ownership and accountability.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Present the LMID proposition in a coherent and persuasive manner to the target client base, increasing brand awareness, sales and profitability across the region.
  • Take a pro-active approach to senior level relationship building, with local and global institutions, in the region.
  • Develop new relationships and build on existing relationships in Switzerland,      contributing to and delivering against the strategy set by the Head of Sales and Client Relationship Management, Europe.
  • Deliver against new and existing business opportunities and Distribution agreements/partners in Switzerland, build the LMID brand through direct client calling, appropriate marketing and face to face meetings.
  • Effectively work with internal partners (for example Client Relationship Management, Marketing, Compliance, Legal) to provide an      exceptional service to our clients.
  • Manage a range of existing distribution channels and Institutional clients, taking a pro-active role in implementing new distribution agreements.
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of LMID investment strategies/products whilst maintaining knowledge of financial markets and competitor products and positioning.
  • Provide client feedback to internal partners to improve product and service offerings.
  • Deliver quality information and a consistent house view to clients in a professional and timely manner.
  • Effectively contribute towards the long term strategy for the wholesale business in the region, working closely with the Heads of Department within LMID.
  • Identify potential gaps in terms of LMID product offerings, partnering with Product and Marketing departments to improve LMID offerings to the market.
  • Development of client presentation materials including RFP’s, questionnaires, meeting agendas and presentation decks to appropriately reflect local market nuances.
  • Forge strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues across the different distribution channels globally to exploit opportunities for cross selling.
  • Partner with Client Relationship Management team to effectively service existing clients and to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Responsible for weekly and monthly reporting on sales activity and pipeline business within region, whilst maintaining and updating Maximizer database as appropriate.
  • Recognise that in all dealings with clients that conduct reflects the standards and      values that the Company requires i.e. integrity of the highest order, professionalism, open, honest and fair information and exceptional client service skills.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • A demonstrable track record of a successful sales career within Asset Management, outstanding negotiation skills and the proven ability to contribute to the profitability of the organisation are essential.
  • Demonstrate the gravitas to establish strong client relationships at all levels to effectively position the LMID brand to increase profitability within the region.
  • A sound working knowledge of negotiating, project managing and implementing Distribution Agreements is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant Asset Management markets is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable evidence of cultural awareness and an understanding of the appropriate sensitivities when developing client relationships in different regions.
