Position Overview

Legg Mason's Corporate Finance department is hiring an analytical, experienced Financial Analyst to join the newly created Business Support Team. Here, you will serve as a Finance Business Partner working under the supervision of our US Business Support Senior Manager.  You will be responsible for the production of management reports, analytics, the annual multi-year budget and forecast processes as well as adhoc requests as appropriate.  You will offer financial assistance and further analysis in support of continued business growth.  The position requires you to think creatively, take initiative, offer up ideas/suggestions and make decisions while being able to challenge the status quo.  Given the interaction with multiple stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Assist in the financial planning process inclusive of the annual plan and monthly projection updates for the US Business Support group
  • Prepare monthly management reporting and analysis for the US Business Support Group including variance analysis, budget tracking, and sales analytics
  • Provide business and financial analytical support related to the US Sales Business Support team’s business leaders
  • Support the revenue accounting month-end close process including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Partner with the business units in decision making and problem solving
  • Build relationships across the Finance department and Business Support functions
  • Complete other ad-hoc requests and support the business in their decision making
  • Attend meetings to review and discuss performance, business initiatives, and ongoing reporting/analysis requirements

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experiene
  • Demonstrated ability to pay persistent attention to detail, while maintaining an overall view of the situation and the “big picture”
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and collaborate with other team members to achieve tasks, goals and expectations of the Business Support Team
  • Must be analytical with good attention to detail, deliver work to a high level of accuracy
  • Previous asset management industry experience a plus, with financial experience related to planning, budgeting, forecasting and analytics
  • Demonstrates professional approach to work by taking ownership and being accountable
  • Able to adapt communication method and style to suit audience and message
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify, anticipate a problem and then make recommendations
  • Strong Excel skills are essential (e.g. Vlookup, pivot tables, sumif)
  • Experience with Workday and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) a plus
