Position Overview

Are you an analytical, experienced Senior Financial Analyst who wants to serve as a strategic business partner to business leaders across a global organization? Our Finance - Planning & Forecasting team is creating a new role within Corporate Finance to lead the implementation of Values-Based Budgeting (VBB) and to coordinate the preparation of business cases for strategic initiatives. 

 

In an effort to complement our existing multi-model planning approach, this new role will support Legg Mason's ongoing need to fully understand our cost base and provide business leaders the information needed to manage the activities in their departments most efficiently and to ensure alignment with the Company's strategy.  As an Analyst, you will coordinate the preparation of business cases for firm-wide initiatives to support decision-making on strategic investments across functional groups within the Company.  You will serve as the point person for these activities and collaborate with multiple stakeholders throughout the Company.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Enhance activity-based costing model to collect data on how time is being spent across the organization from a financial/spend perspective
  • Partner and consult with business leaders across the company to review and document financial activities
  • Cost financial activities and align with department and firm strategies, serving as a strategic business partner
  • Consult with Finance leadership to review research and make recommendations for improvement
  • Enhance business case justification model to expand on key inputs; including value, risk, cost, net present value and internal rate of return
  • Review and analyze business initiative inputs and ongoing reporting/analysis requirements
  • Build and maintain relationships throughout Finance and within other business groups across the firm
  • Assist in the coordination of, reporting and analytics of the overall planning process, inclusive of the annual plan, mid-year forecast and monthly projections
  • Perform 'ad hoc' analysis addressing issues or concerns regarding financial operating results for any given period
  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; graduate degree with concentration in Finance preferred
  • MS Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail, analytical and logical thought processes and critical thinking
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and collaborate with other team members to achieve tasks, goals and expectations of both Finance and the business groups being worked with
  • Ability to meet with and present to Business Groups and Finance leadership
  • Experience with Hyperion's Financial Management & Planning applications, Essbase, and Workday general ledger desired, but not required
  • Possess strong understanding of accounting concepts with the ability to read and interpret financial statements
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure
  • Asset Management industry experience preferred
