Position Overview

Our Retirement Sales group is currently seeking a Retirement Specialist to join our team. This Specialist is responsible for covering the territories of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Generating and increasing 401(k) sales across a range of retirement alliance partners by becoming the premier retirement partner to retirement platform wholesalers and financial advisors;
  • Partnering with a network of retirement platform wholesalers and divisional sales managers within the territory at Tier 1 alliance distribution partners;
  • Supporting top retirement advisors and consultants by delivering high quality, high energy investment, marketing and sales education via in-person visits, calls, emails, etc;
  • Identifying new sales and marketing opportunities;
  • Working with Legg Mason regional Sales Directors to develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy (including sales objectives and marketing strategies) for each alliance partner firm;
  • Developing a strategic territory rotation, providing industry education and promoting sales and marketing tools developed by Legg Mason;
  • Conducting meetings with, and provide marketing and seminar support for, alliance marketing specialists and financial consultants to sell Legg Mason products within alliance platforms;
  • Organizing and representing Legg Mason at all retirement plan specific functions of a national and/or regional scope, including national conferences, training sessions, due diligence meetings, etc;
  • Effectively managing a promotions and entertainment budget to influence territory sales;
  • Extensive regional travel required

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent existing relationships with Financial Advisors committed to retirement sales in the Northwestern region;
  • Financial industry knowledge with specific experience in mutual funds;
  • Minimum 6 to 8 years of financial services sales related experience;
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years of retirement services sales related experience;
  • Results oriented;
  • Great customer relationship management and servicing skills as well as internal corporate relationship management capabilities;
  • Superb interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses;
  • CRPS or other retirement designation preferred, but not required.

  • Enthusiastic team player and self starter with ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced sales environment;
  • Clear and effective communicator;
  • Superb public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Flexible and adaptable;
  • Able to work on multiple projects with multiple parts of the division at the same time;
  • Always considering the bottom line of our division when making financial decisions;
  • Able to travel (approx. 80% of time).
