Legg Mason's newly created Chief Data Office is hiring a new Data Governance Analyst to sit within our centralized Data Governance function.  Here, you will support critical Data Governance activities, coordinating across various Business and Technology departments. You will be expected to drive data governance and data quality processes from initial data acquisition through data consumption/use by end user communities. The Data Governance Analyst is responsible for coordinating, escalating & resolving, in conjunction with Business Data Stewards, all material issues or misstatements resulting in the data not being fit for business purpose.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Participate in driving Data Governance standards across several projects, ensuring business data needs are met on a timely basis
  • Manage process within Collibra metadata inventory tool throughout data lifecycle.  Data onboarding & data change management workflows
  • Maintenance of business terms and definitions, technical metadata, data linage & business transformation rules. Ensure metadata is clear & concise and certified by the Business and Technical Stewards
  • Analyze core data universe to determine where data quality workflow, process improvements can be achieved
  • Conduct data analysis and data profiling on critical data and derived data sets
  • Design data quality rules fit for purposes that effectively support business rules
  • Support and maintain the implementation of data policies & standards, business rules, data definitions, testing depth & data quality controls
  • Work with the Data Management team to ensure data quality controls are fully implemented for all Critical Data.
  • Monitor production data systems for data governance and data quality issues
  • Participate in data exception management & resolution.  Perform root cause analysis of data issues, with proposals for permanent solutions to address such data issues
  • Capture data quality issue metrics required for periodic reporting
  • Creation & maintenance of Data Governance / Data Quality procedures
  • Responsible for customer/client and product master data quality, accuracy, consistency and timeliness
  • Participate in efforts to drive adoption of Data Governance process and usage of Collibra DGC
  • Support additional projects as required, working with management & technology to implement process enhancement linked to key Data Governance initiatives

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience working with large amounts of data and data analytics tools, specifically in data management and/or data operations functions
  • Experience with process monitoring, data quality management, master data, business & technical metadata, data profiling, and codesets data management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently & effectively in a time critical environment, meeting day to day business deliverables as well as assisting the team in project deliverables
  • Knowledge or experience with Collibra preferred, but not required
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship; we are unable to provide sponsorship for this position
