Position Overview

Legg Mason is seeking an experienced Senior Developer who will work on multiple technologies primarily on Data Warehouse platforms which process 100s of batch feeds every day. This person will need to be very strong on Oracle PL/SQL and have good (hands on preferred) knowledge of Java/J2EE and other web technologies. We are looking for a candidate who is proactive and who can provide technical directions for the design, development, and system integration utilizing various technologies while ensuring commitment and quality through completion. We are looking for someone who is a quick learner and for someone who is adaptable to change.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

 

  • Work on a Proof of Concept to streamline the technology process for loading vendor data feeds. Analyze various batch processing frameworks and design a system that is extensible, high-performance, scalable and flexible enough to accommodate future requirements.
  • Apply significant knowledge of Investment Management processes, financial industry trends and developments, Emerging technologies, ETL and Business Intelligence tools to improve service to our Business Partners.
  • Resolve production application issues. Anticipate long-term support issues and plan for corrective actions. Perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues.
  • Provides technical direction for the design, development, and systems integration utilizing various technologies and translate application storyboards and uses cases into functional application.
  • Responsible for building out custom connectors to Salesforce & Business Objects utilizing the Java SDK Framework.
  • Participate in Architecture groups and develop technical architecture of systems that support business groups.
  • Help drive code quality, organization, and automation.
  • Improve company’s technical awareness, depth and use of technology across the business. Recognize system deficiencies and suggest alternative technical solutions. Provide technical oversight to Development, Quality Assurance and Support Teams.
  • Utilizing technical knowledge in data analysis tools and techniques to drive project delivery and work with senior management/business users to determine timelines and develop cost-effective budgets and resource plans.

 

 

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical proficiency in ETL preferably with Informatica Power Center 9.x+, Informatica Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle (12c+), Oracle single / composite partitioning, PL/SQL, and data modeling, developing and optimizing backend code.
  • Good understanding of Data Warehouse concepts including Dimensional Modeling, Star schema and Reporting Hierarchies.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unix, Perl, and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with business analytics tools like Tableau, Python, and Qlikview.
  • Experience with application design, development and deployment experience in a Linux server environment.
  • Solid understanding of Business Objects 4.x, Salesforce and Message Oriented Middleware to work with business users to comprehend and implement large systems supporting financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of Java/J2EE, Spring/MVC frameworks, Service Oriented Architecture, Web Services, Java   Beans, JDBC/JNDI, EJB, XML/XSLT, Multi-threading is a big plus.
  • Web Services such as Axis, SOAP/RESTful API, UDDI, WSDL.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Applications, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience reflecting demonstrable ability in the skill set described above.
  • Must have 6+ years of experience with Unix/Linux, Oracle PL/SQL programming, performance tuning, Object Oriented Design Principles, Enterprise Design Standards, Investment Management processes, Emerging technologies, ETL and Business Intelligence tools.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree

  • Candidate must have extensive hands on experience when it comes to project development and should have good exposure to analysis and design phases of projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to participate in Architecture groups to develop and enhance the technical architecture of the systems that are currently deployed.
  • Knowledge of basic project management framework and methodology
  • Ability to accurately estimate design and development timelines for application components.
  • Thorough understanding of structured programming principles, system analysis techniques, system design, industry standard testing principles, system implementation, user training and follow-up.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working in an Agile team and working knowledge of SDLC processes.
