Position Overview

Legg Mason is seeking a knowledgeable Compliance Officer to join our team in London. As a CO, you would assume key funds compliance responsibilities alongside an 8-person team, together focused on providing compliance support to the Legg Mason European Funds business of LMI(E) and LMIF, Ireland, and UK based fund structures.

 

Your main responsibilities will be focused on compliance matters relating to the daily operations (including anti money laundering), oversight, and monitoring of the Funds service providers. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Maintain the compliance related oversight of the Funds third party fund service providers, including: UK and Ireland Transfer Agents and Fund Administrators
  • Lead and advise on Anti Money Laundering queries from internal departments and external service providers on behalf of the Funds business
  • Prepare the UK & European Funds and UK legal entity board and committee compliance reports
  • Support the Compliance Director and Fund Compliance Director through keeping up-to-date with AML and other relevant regulatory developments impacting the Funds and provide recommendations for appropriate business procedural amendments when necessary to meet changed regulations
  • In collaboration with compliance colleagues analyse, respond to, record and report UK and Ireland fund related breaches and potential SARS
  • Assist with maintaining the compliance monitoring programme, and assume responsibilities for the delivery of elements of the programmes activities
  • As part of the Legg Mason European Fund compliance team, assist with regulatory reporting and other matters as and when required including coverage for complaint handling, conflicts of interest management information.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree level or equivalent
  • Appropriate professional / industry qualification (e.g. IOC/IMC) an advantage – candidates without will be expected to achieve such and will be offered appropriate training
  • Maths / Science based qualifications an advantage
  • Law related qualification an advantage
  • Knowledge of UK FCA and/or CBI rules as applicable to the asset management of UCITS and AIF products
  • Understanding of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) and key elements of the Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR)
  • Knowledge of UK FCA regulations and recent regulatory initiatives including thematic reviews
  • Minimum 12-18-month Asset Management / Fund Administration Anti Money Laundering experience including decision making responsibilities in accordance with internal policies and procedures
  • Good understanding of structure and requirements relating to European domiciled UCITS Funds and / or AIFs, and practical experience of either UK or Dublin domiciled Funds
  • Prior compliance testing/monitoring experience including involvement and set responsibilities in the preparation and execution of a testing or monitoring programme
