Do you want to join a fast growing FinTech organization that's part of a well-established, reputable Global Asset Manager? Our Alternative Distribution Strategies (ADS) team is growing and seeking a Senior Lead Business Analyst.


ADS is a division of Legg Mason Global Distribution with a vision to drive customer intimacy by offering highly personalized solutions, enhanced by technology. The ADS team is focused on developing and implementing alternative methods to deliver Legg Mason investment solutions to new and existing clients. In doing so, the team oversees and continues to build out a series of portfolio analytics tools and digital advice platforms (e.g. robo-advisor solution) to support investors, advisors, and the Legg Mason distribution organization.


The Senior Lead Business Analyst should have 8+ years' experience of structured requirements management utilizing industry Business Analysis standard techniques. In this newly created role, you will be expected to deliver succinct and effective communication to senior leadership and to client teams. In addition, you will provide strategic leadership of business analyst best practices and will lead cross-functional / global teams focused in Wealth Management, Digital Platforms, and Distribution to ensure project outcomes are aligned with business and client objectives. This position is based in our Stamford, CT office located at 100 First Stamford Place.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

  • Act as the primary contact with business clients to elicit requirements and validate requirements and designs - developing and maintaining strong relationships, and keeping these clients informed and engaged throughout the entire project lifecycle
  • Partner with Business Unit (BU) stakeholders to research, define, and document business requirements for new business processes and systems or enhancements to existing processes and systems.  Collect and understand the business requirements for the project and translate those into functional requirements. 
  • Provide strategic leadership of business analyst best practices.
  • Ensure all methodology and quality is aligned with the business objectives and client requirements.
  • Understand the short & long-term business and technology objectives of Alternative Distribution Strategies.  Suggest requirements of management strategies to meet those objectives and continually introduce innovation to business processes.
  • Assemble project teams of indirect resources as needed.  May assign individual responsibilities, identify and manage appropriate resource needs, and develop and manage schedules to ensure deadlines of projects are quickly met.
  • Engage in project initiation phase to assess resource skill sets required; produce requirement delivery plan artifacts, and co-ordinate estimates of effort required for a project.
  • Define quality attributes, external interfaces, constraints, and other nonfunctional requirements.  Thoroughly document workflows and results of business analysis.
  • Lead requirements analysis and verification, ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable, feasible, unambiguous, and verifiable. 
  • Conduct requirements review sessions.  Manage requirements traceability information and track requirements status throughout the project.
  • Maintain requirements repository and ensure proper updating of requirements for completeness and correctness.
  • Build and leverage effective alliances across technical and business communities. Resolving any conflicts with requirements between business units or between business and technology.
  • Participate in all phases of requirements gathering and facilitate the process.
  • Support requirements through testing.
  • Support training activities for internal team and external end users including documentation of Quick Reference Cards and other Training documentation/sessions when required.
  • Depending on the project, this may involve supporting the Training group, or may involve direct responsibility for production and delivery of these materials.
  • Domestic travel required (approximately 20%)



Ideal Qualifications and Experience


  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Business or Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years’ experience of structured requirements management utilizing industry standard techniques (process modeling, data modeling, use cases, JAD, case tools, etc.)
  • 5 + years industry experience 
    • Experience working in the financial sector and Wealth Management is a strong plus
  • Experience eliciting requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, business analysis, competitive product analysis, task and workflow analysis, and viewpoints.
  • Experience with decomposing high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements and quality requirements, specified in an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by those who must base their work on the requirements.
  • Ability to set direction, generate a sense of purpose, and inspire a team to work in an optimum manner to achieve desired results.
  • Background with various software development methodologies, i.e., Agile, Waterfall (a plus)
  • Broad knowledge of project management concepts and methodology, coupled with detailed knowledge of change management.
  • Strong relationship building and influencing skills that maintain effective partnerships across functional groups and clients
  • Effective problem resolution skills
  • Scrum experience and working with Agile tools like Jira and Confluence is a plus
  • Superior situational awareness, communication, conflict resolution, and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large numbers of different and often conflicting objectives/activities at one time
  • Experience in quickly and effectively adjusting priorities and goals in changing circumstances
  • Superior work ethic and ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Proven customer service skills required to create, maintain and enhance customer relationships. Previous client relationship management experience desirable.
