Legg Mason’s corporate finance department is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join the team in Downtown Baltimore (Harbor East). This position offers an excellent learning environment and opportunities to advance alongside highly technical, subject matter experts.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to



Accounting Policy:

  • Research and document accounting issues (US GAAP, SEC regulations, IFRS and foreign GAAP) that may arise due to the development of a new product, a transaction or the release of new authoritative pronouncements, including revenue recognition and lease accounting;
  • Monitor all new accounting developments (including items issued by the FASB, SEC, IASB and PCAOB) and evaluate the effect they may have on Legg Mason and its financial statements;
  • Review SEC filings for Legg Mason, Inc. (10Qs and 10Ks) for adherence to proper disclosure guidance (SEC and US GAAP);
  • Prepare quarterly and annual SEC and FINRA filings for a registered broker-dealer;
  • Perform the variable interest entity consolidation analysis;
  • Perform technical accounting and SEC research, including peer filing reviews;

Corporate Controls:

  • Coordinate SOX process administration with Affiliates, including implementation of SOX processes that result from scoping changes;
  • Perform SOX compliance administration, including:
    • Maintenance of ICFR documentation
    • Preparation of Summary of Aggregated Deficiencies and conclusion memos
    • Review of CEO/CFO certifications and summarize consolidated results for Disclosure Committee


  • Prepare detailed valuations, including projected discounted cash flow analyses and market-based valuation analyses.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • CPA required
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting and/or auditing experience at a large public accounting firm or within a public company's financial reporting team 
  • Strong financial reporting and controls knowledge
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Flexibility to work effectively in a matrixed environment with various supervisors
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to quality client service
