Position Overview

Legg Mason is seeking a Head of Communications to join our growing Marketing organization. In this role, you would be responsible for developing and maintaining a PR programme that supports the Asian country businesses and to drive growth in Legg Mason’s perception and brand in Asian markets.

 

This involves strategic and tactical initiatives around press communications representing Legg Mason and our nine investment management companies across Asia.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

 

  • Work with the global communications team to ensure that the Asian strategy is consistent with the communications goals and objectives for the global organization.
  • Ensure communications strategy fulfils agreed objectives, meet quality standards and is constantly evolving.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Legg Mason’s investment management companies and work with them to plan and execute effective PR strategies.
  • Work closely with social media team, Asia Country Head and Asian Channel Marketing team in defining Asia social media strategy, integrating into the PR strategy.
  • Responsible for the daily management of the Asian PR agency network. Work closely with local market PR agencies and Legg Mason country heads to develop and execute on local PR objectives within budget.
  • Collaborate with the global communications team and the Head of European Communications on common PR initiatives.
  • Responsible for managing the Asian PR budget in conjunction with the Head of Global Corporate Communications.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with influential journalists across the region.
  • Manage media training for spokespersons.
  • Advise spokespersons on topics, approach, messages and strategy with the media.
  • Work with business heads and global communications team to manage the business strategy as it evolves and take responsibilty for ensuring that activities and spokespeople adhere to business strategy and positioning in the context of media relations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that spokespersons are aware of corporate guidelines regarding dealings with the press.
  • Draft and proof-read press releases, placed articles, interview talking points.
  • Proactively provide and update the global communications team the effectiveness of regional PR activity, news and content on LM offices including affiliates in Asia.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • 7+ year's experience in a similar role (ideally within asset management industry) 
  • Degree level with a significant track record in PR and Communications
  • Pan Asian PR and PR agency network management experience essential
  • Media relations skills and strong journalist network in asset management
  • PR Agency experience would be a distinct advantage.
  • Asset Management experience essential.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Prior experience managing a team ideal
  • Demonstrated ability to implement communications programmes.
  • Good experience and familiar with the paid content arena, managing webinars/webex and video production
  • IMC or equivalent qualification desirable
