Legg Mason is seeking a data savvy Next Gen Intern to join our U.S. Product team for the 2018-2019 school year! As a Product Management Analyst Intern, you will gain exposure to Legg Mason's businesses across various investment products and functions. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

The Product Management Analyst Intern will work on projects utilizing data and predictive analytics skillsets to automate processes, enable client targeting and inform the strategic business decision-making process.


Fund Board Oversight

  • Assist in addressing enhancements to the annual contract renewal project. Automate an extensive data collection process from various system-generated reports.  
  • Assist in preparing the final reports to the Boards’ contract renewal committees. The reports are comprised of both PowerPoint and excel files. 
  • Develop templates for tailored performance reports to the Fund Boards that are not yet automated (both monthly and quarterly reports).

529 Business

  • Create predictive analytics based on sales and AUM data to uncover potential growth opportunities and enhance client targeting.
  • Create and automate industry trend analyses. 

Open- End Mutual Fund Product Management

  • Construct competitive analytics tools and management dashboards, utilizing industry data. Develop data insights by analyzing industry trends.
  • Maintain and enhance an algorithm used to monitor the Legg Mason mutual fund family.
  • Maintain and improve methodology for competitive fee peer group analyses. 

Business Management

  • Develop and maintain a repository for distribution partner arrangements. Analyze arrangements and automate financial impact analyses.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Rising Junior or Senior, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Adept at quantitative analysis and synthesizing data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Self-starter, Innovative thinker; can take a fresh look at current processes and identify new and creative ways to approach tasks
  • Displays learning agility and intellectual curiosity
  • Relevant coursework or internship experience (e.g. artificial intelligence, data analytics, business objects) a plus
  • Programming knowledge (Python, R, SQL) and/or financial modeling experience a plus

This program is designed to provide a rich opportunity for students who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the financial services industry and contribute while working on special projects. This Internship will run three consecutive semesters (Summer, Fall, and Spring), full-time during the Summer and part-time during the Fall and Spring semesters, and students will connect with fellow interns, and the Legg Mason community.
