  • Position Overview

    ClearBridge seeks to recruit a multi-talented, well-rounded and experienced professional to join their growing Business Development Team in London. The role will provide business development support to a variety of U.S., Global and other (sector; ESG; etc.) public equity investment products across the UK and European marketplaces.  This role will span all distribution channels with a focus on the institutional sector and consultants across EMEA.  The role will support the team’s objective in EMEA of articulating ClearBridge’s integrated ESG investment capabilities.  Over time, we anticipate a strong candidate will undertake increasing responsibilities for client relationship management and other career development opportunities. 

    Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

    As a member of ClearBridge’s London-based Business Development Team, the primary responsibility of the role is to provide support for sales and marketing efforts for the firm’s investment strategies in EMEA. This involves coordination of: sales and marketing efforts, client & prospect meeting follow-up, CRM system management, activity reporting, project management, product strategy and more. The role will support and collaborate with senior members of the London-based team and other members of the organization to grow sales and brand recognition in the region.

     

    The successful candidate should have tangible experience working within the asset management industry and the institutional marketplace. This individual will have had success supporting and maintaining client relationships with senior level professional buyers and decision makers (Pensions, Consultants, Family Offices, Sub-Advised, Fund Platforms, etc.). Solid experience with databases and CRM systems is also a critical component for consideration and success. The candidate must also have strong interpersonal skills, be a clear and steady communicator, be committed to excellence, be entrepreneurial and have the personal presence and demeanor to represent ClearBridge with distinction.

     

    In addition to business development experience, the ideal candidate will also be able to:

    • Generate activity reporting and market research to summarize and support team’s efforts
    • Collaborate with teammates across the organization (business development, marketing, portfolio analytics, portfolio specialists, etc.) on messaging product set and marketplace strategy
    • Participate in investment strategy meetings/calls with institutional business development teammates globally, portfolio specialists, portfolio managers and others
    • Partner with home office-based RFP team to effectively and accurately populate RFP’s specific to prospects in Europe and ensure timely responses
    • Maintain awareness of key ESG trends in EMEA and assist with integrating into messaging and activity within the region
    • Collaborate with distribution professionals at parent company, Legg Mason, to create and leverage the synergies of their field presence throughout Europe
    • Assist efforts by partnering with marketing team to ensure the accurate and timely updating of relevant strategy and corporate information on major industry institutional databases to maximize search visibility in EMEA region
    • Introduce and summarize key strategy attributes to prospects and clients in support of senior business development and team member’s activity in the region
    • Communicate the investment philosophy, process, and performance of specific equity products in both a client service and sales capacity

    Ideal Qualifications and Experience

    • 3-7 years of industry experience, with at least 2 years’ experience working within the institutional marketplace (e.g. consultants/plan sponsors/research) in Europe and/or UK
    • Working knowledge of appropriate industry contacts, including investment consultants, pension schemes, family offices, wealth management platforms, etc.
    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent); candidate for CFA or MBA is a plus
    • Knowledge of global equity markets, modern portfolio theory, and performance attribution
    • Aptitude to obtain a strong knowledge-base on investment products and capabilities -  to effectively and efficiently introduce and summarize during the sales process and client servicing
    • Excellent interpersonal, and relationship-management skills       
    • Must be able to operate in a globally-based team environment
    • Ability to work in a small office setting and be the anchor while senior teammates are traveling out of the office
    • Entrepreneurial, flexible, resourceful and proactive 
    • Excellent presentation and communication skills
    • Familiarity with Sales Force or similar CRM systems
    • Multiple language skills a plus
    • Some travel possible; conference/event participation
