    Legg Mason is building a robust data and analytics technical infrastructure and the teams and processes to support the environment. We are actively creating the “data foundation” that will power the next generation of business insights and ways of working using machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities.

     

    The Enterprise Data Specialist is a new position in Legg Mason’s new centralized Enterprise Data Services function. This position will initially be focused on building a solid and robust data foundation by implementing a strong stewardship and governance program for our core data domains. This role will drive a common understanding of data, educate the organization about the data available, and ensure data is being used optimally across Legg Mason. This role is intended to be an active member of the many programs and projects that require high quality data and analytics. You will work within a small team of dedicated data management and analytics specialists and will work closely with Business Data Stewards, Technical Stewards, and Business Data Owners, Data Producers and Data Consumers.

     

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    Responsibilities will include defining key and critical data elements, building robust data dictionary / business glossary, defining data quality, consistency and completeness so that data is trusted and well understood across the Enterprise.

     

    Responsibilities will also include assisting and executing on various business initiatives focusing on current & future data management program deliverables. Ability to work efficiently & effectively in a time critical environment to meet project deliverable dates, as well as business as 'usual' deliverables and enhancements is important.  

     

     

    • Provide data domain leadership across all assigned data sets and act as the expert go to resource supporting all current and future business data needs.
    • Provide expert guidance and implementation advice for using data effectively within and across business operational processes.
    • Ensure that a single view of the truth for the assigned data domain is maintained, including business definitions, technical meta data, source system identification, business rules and data quality rules.
    • Work directly with Business Data Stewards to develop business rules and data quality controls through data profiling, ensuring enrichment of all critical datasets.
    • Understand core data domains and analytics tools available at Legg Mason, educate users on how data is organized and should be accessed.
    • Leverage the Collibra DGC inventory tool capturing business & technical metadata, data linage & transformation rules for assigned data domains/data sets.
    • Work in conjunction with the Data Governance Office to develop & manage data scorecards, metrics and reports as required for assigned domain/s.
    • Recommend new data projects and help prioritize existing data programs to align to business needs.
    • Coordinate additional projects as required, partnering with the Data Governance Office, Enterprise Data Specialists, working with the business & technology to deliver important Data Governance initiatives that include, but are not limited to:
      • Enterprise Data Management Programs
      • Enterprise Product Profitability
      • Data conversion and migrations (custodians, 3rd party providers)
      • Data Governance and Data Quality programs for specific data domains
      • Master Data programs (product, security, customer, etc.)
      • Data Privacy programs (GDPR, etc.)
    • Drive and execute data domain training & communication needs for all Legg business units and affiliates, as required, supporting Data Governance implementation of the Data Office representative on any “Compete to Win” or Kaizen event (Lean / Six Sigma) initiatives at Legg Mason.

     

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science and or information systems and or related discipline.
    • 5+ year finance, banking or asset management activities, specifically in data management, data analysis and data governance functions
    • Experience managing master data, business & technical metadata, data profiling and data quality programs
    • Experience managing key data projects and programs
    • Experience using data in diverse ways to effectively optimize business processes
    • Excel experience
    • Business Objects, Collibra, Tableau, Alteryx and AWS experience
    • Oracle and SQL knowledge preferred
    • Robust knowledge of specific data attributes of all asset types such as Equities, Fixed Income & derivative instruments
    • Ability to work efficiently & effectively in a time critical environment, meeting day to day business deliverables as well as assisting the team in project deliverables
