  • Position Overview

    Reporting to Managing Director, Global Communications, this position is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications and PR campaigns to support the firm’s nine independent affiliates, drawing upon the incumbent’s knowledge of markets and the media landscape.

    Key Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not Limited to

    • Manages strategic and tactical external communications planning and earned media campaigns that highlight Legg Mason’s diverse investment expertise.  
    • Identifies macro and market trends that ties to business narratives and works with the Legg Mason content and marketing teams and Legg Mason affiliate marketing and investment teams to create communications plans that amplify these narratives across the right mix of traditional, social, digital and earned media.
    • Uses deep business and investment knowledge to uncover differentiated media angles of interest and proactively pitch stories to the media to generate coverage.
    • Manage forward features and contributed articles with target US media.
    • Maintains strong relationships with investment media.
    • Works with internal communications teams to educate employees, and to ensure they are aware of the firm’s campaigns around investment capabilities.
    • Enables and encourages sharing of best communications practices with colleagues.
    • Builds relationships with external influencers.

     

    Ideal Qualifications and Experience

     

    • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree a plus.
    • 8-10 years of investment communications experience.
    • Combination of PR/agency and former journalist background a plus.
    • Comprehensive understanding of asset management and experience in the following asset classes; public equities, public and private fixed income, real estate, and structured products.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills.
    • Strong knowledge of the asset management industry, exceptional news judgement, understanding of current affairs and media relations experience.
    • Ability to understand reporter needs, discern and pitch creative news angles, and establish and nurture relationships with media targets and reporters.
    • Strong project management skills and ability to devise and execute campaigns.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills.
    • Enjoys a collaborative work environment whilst embracing a ‘self-starter’ attitude.
