    Legg Mason is seeking a skilled Investment/Product Specialist to join our Portfolio Specialist Group. As a Product Specialist, you are a key contact and source of information for a diverse range of clients and act as the primary link between the investment management companies and the distribution teams located in London and internationally. 


    In this role, you will work with a variety of investment managers and be responsible for understanding each product, investment process, philosophy, and investment style fully. It's important that you keep up to date with economic events, financial markets and news relating to their relevant portfolios.


    To be successful in this role, you should be ready to adapt and innovative on your delivery, impact, and the service you provide to the sales teams and clients.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • You will work as the hub for centralized technical investment information for International Equity and multi-asset funds by garnering insights, preparing insightful investment material and product updates, disseminating key views and updates regarding affiliates, and being the point of call for Sales enquiries with an investment perspective.
    • Partner with the marketing and sales team to ensure best use of the portfolio managers when you are travelling in the European region.
    • Primarily focused on supplying insights to the Internal client (Sales, Product Development, Marketing) and over time, with experience, it is expected that you may have more external client involvement.
    • Coach and train your colleagues to ensure they have a good understanding of each product and an up to date picture of changes to portfolios and the impact of market trends.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with your team, especially the Business Development Managers and Client Service Teams globally and in particular in London, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
    • Help the Investment Director for International Equities build effective client tour schedules by liaising with European sales directors when the need ensues. You will also help supply information to internal and external clients with direction from the Investment Director.
    • Connect with Legg Mason investment managers, acting as a conduit for communicating investment strategies to external clients.
    • Build close working relationships with selected investment managers on an international basis, keeping abreast of portfolio changes and performance characteristics. Over time, once you are fully established, you may well be expected to travel approximately 10–20% of the time seeing European based clients, potentially more in dense activity periods. Flexibility to perform is key.
    • Partner closely with the Marketing and Product Development teams, acting as point of contact to ensure pitch books, marketing materials, and fact sheets are accurately maintained and tailored for the Product Specialist Group
    • Enhance technical knowledge of all distribution teams via delivering training programs.
    • Design and implement innovative and disciplined mechanisms for disseminating critical market information to the LM Sales teams.
    • Build a culture of excellence whereby colleagues become better product advocates
    • Help build a solutions based mindset and be a part of the drive to create and evolve a next generational product specialist group
    • Report into the Investment Director for International Equities and Multi-Asset. Indirect reporting line to the Head of the Product Specialist Group.


    • First class communication and presentation skills and an ability to tailor a message for a diverse range of audiences.
    • Excellent grasp of financial markets.
    • Previous experience in understanding and communication the technical aspects of equity products and economic issues
    • Requisite experience to deal with internal clients and over time external clients
    • Ability to set strategy and execute on tactical plans.
    • High on Intellectual curiosity and integrity.
    • Confident, committed, enthusiastic, and a good net-worker, both internally and externally.
    • High attention to detail
    • Naturally well organised and can work under pressure
    • Hard working self-starter and self-motivated
    • Ability to prioritise time, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
    • Numerate and commercially aware.
    • Proven team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and is able to work independently and build relationships at a distance, whilst being robust dealing with difficult scenarios
    • Able to command the respect of clients and peers and enjoys working in an open, non-hierarchical organisation.
    • Confident ability to coach colleagues.
    • Fluent business English is essential; a major European language is desirable.
    • CFA qualification (or progress) is highly desirable
