    Legg Mason is seeking a Data Quality Lead to join our team. This is a new position in Legg Mason’s centralized Enterprise Data Services function. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure fit for purpose data quality capabilities are identified and implemented across all data domains, ensuring a solid data foundation is in place to support our data and analytics capabilities that help deliver critical business insights at Legg Mason. The overall goal is to deliver a robust data quality environment that provides trusted, high quality data to power critical business operations and insights.


    You will work within a small team of dedicated data management and data specialists and will work closely with Business Data Stewards, Technical Stewards, and Business Data Owners, Data Producers and Data Consumers.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Defining and drafting business rules for critical data elements during data domain onboarding.
    • Operationalizing and deploying data quality issue identification and remediation process.
    • Defining downstream procedures for data sources including current legacy platforms, the enterprise data hub, source system remediation, user reporting, defining data quality dimensions, consistency and completeness.
    • Assisting on various business initiatives focusing on current & future data management program deliverables.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of data governance structures and frameworks, especially as it relates to financial institutions and regulatory requirements
    • Familiar with roles and responsibilities, including data stewards, data quality, data dictionaries, and data lineage
    • Ability to adapt to changing business priorities, respond to ad-hoc problem solving, and identify any emerging opportunities or challenges
    • Experience developing and writing data quality policies, standards, and framework documents
    • Partner with the Data Governance Office to develop & manage data quality scorecards, metrics and reports as required for assigned domains/stewards.
    • Implement and continually enhance data quality dashboards and provide status updates, track and report on metrics and KPIs
    • Recommend and deploy tools to monitor and control data quality.  Deliver analysis/assessment of data quality technology platforms that drive build/buy decisions
    • Provide ongoing expertise on data quality monitoring and issue management resolution as the process evolves/matures.
    • Work to identify and design sustainable processes for DQ monitoring and issue resolution management
    • Help define and support a “single view of the truth” for data domains, including related business definitions, technical meta data, source system identification, business rules and data quality rules.
    • Work directly with Business Data Stewards to develop business rules and data quality controls through data profiling, ensuring enrichment of all critical datasets.
    • Leverage the Collibra DGC inventory tool capturing business & technical metadata, data linage & transformation rules for assigned data domains/data sets with special attention to data profiling.
    • Recommend new data projects and help prioritize existing data programs to align to business, especially those with a data quality focus.
    • Represent the department on “Compete to Win” or Kaizen events or initiatives at Legg Mason. (Lean Six Sigma)
    • Coordinate additional projects as required, partnering with the Data Governance Office, Enterprise Data Specialists, working with the business & technology to deliver important data initiatives that include, but are not limited to:
    • Enterprise Data Management Programs
    • Enterprise Product Profitability
    • Data conversion and migrations (custodians, 3rd party providers)
    • Data Governance programs for specific data domains
    • Master Data programs (product, security, customer, etc.)
    • Data Privacy programs (GDPR, etc.)
    • Drive and execute data domain training & communication for all Legg business units and affiliates, as required, supporting data governance implementation
    • Develop positive and collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and effectively communicate with both business and technology stakeholders
    • Document processes, reports and plans and ensure information is relevant, accurate and complete
    • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills for multiple levels of management


    • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field, Master's Degree advantageous 
    • Around 7+ year's experience of finance, banking or asset management activities, specifically in data management, data analysis, data quality, and data governance functions
    • Experience managing master data, business & technical metadata, and leading data quality programs including hands-on experience with data profiling
    • Experience managing key data projects and programs
    • Experience using data in diverse ways to effectively optimize business processes
    • Excel experience
    • Business Objects, Collibra, Tableau, Alteryx, AWS, and Data Quality Solutions (IDQ, Atacama, etc.) experience.
    • Oracle and SQL knowledge preferred
    • Robust knowledge of specific data attributes of all asset types such as Equities, Fixed Income & derivative instruments
    • Ability to work efficiently & effectively in a time critical environment, meeting day to day business deliverables as well as assisting the team in project deliverables
