We are actively creating the “data foundation” or Enterprise Data Hub (EDH) that will power the next generation of business insights and ways of working using machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities.

As part of this exciting new work, we have developed a position for a Global Head of Enterprise Analytics who will be an instrumental leader in this initiative. Reporting to Legg Mason’s Chief Data Officer, you would be responsible for creating the vision / strategy and executing the plan to build the Enterprise Analytics team. The primary function of the team will be building the analytics community and associated operating model across all functional areas of Legg Mason.  It is intended for the team to be small and focused and to complement the existing analytics teams embedded in functional areas.

This role will be accountable for further enabling business leaders to incorporate data in decisions by creating a team that understands core business questions, helps define dashboards and reporting for easier data access, and provides an advanced analytics / data science capability.  This team will work directly with and support functional area analytics, business and technology partners across the firm and will be jointly responsible for defining and delivering use cases that provide tangible value in 3 areas (revenue growth, operational efficiency and better risk management).

You will have the opportunity to build the initial team and make recommendations for the future growth of the organization over the next 2-3 years.  A key component of this role will be building and evangelizing a data and analytics culture at Legg Mason. This includes building an Analytics Center / Community of Excellence that helps accelerate the use of data and analytics across the entire firm. Additionally, this leader will also be responsible for driving / influencing good data governance and stewardship and building, prioritizing and managing a multi-year roadmap for analytics deliverables and investments. This role can be based in any of major Legg Mason locations (Baltimore, Stamford, New York, London)

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Create a new analytics team that collaborates with and supports internal and external clients. Ensure that roles and responsibilities on the team are clearly defined and the expectation of the roles are clearly articulated
    • Serve as a change agent within the organization, building an analytics-driven culture that fosters data-driven and agile decision making, test and learn, and strong internal collaboration between Enterprise Analytics and the functional areas
    • Create an Analytics Center / Community of Excellence that serves as a focal point for coordinating functional area analytics teams and nurtures a “citizen data analyst” community at Legg Mason
    • Develop a multi-tiered approach to analytics that puts the “right tool” into the hands of the “right user” spanning from basic data access via an information portal through to a data science laboratory leveraged by data scientists
    • Be an evangelist for excellent data governance, quality and stewardship across the enterprise by maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Enterprise Data Governance team and IT
    • Partner with senior executives within functional areas and business units to understand their business objectives and to develop reporting and analytics strategies to support their information needs, uncover core problems and build data access, advanced analytics, and decision tools that improve business outcomes
    • Lead and manage creating, prioritizing and delivering the analytic “use case” roadmaps that will influence and drive prioritization within the governance, stewardship, architecture, and tools roadmaps for data and analytics. Work with Data Governance, Functional Area Analytics Teams and IT to create an environment that enables the team to build a wide array of data products that scale to solve client’s needs
    • Create, implement and continually improve the analytics operating model for Legg Mason
    • Attract, develop and lead a team of functional experts. Create a high performing team and environment that fosters world class research, data science and analytical skills, and provides ongoing opportunities for personal and professional growth
