  • Position Overview

    Legg Mason is seeking a Fund Operations Analyst to join our team in Melbourne. In this role you will be responsible for supporting the operations of Legg Mason fund range. This is a broad where you will have responsibilities including unit pricing reconciliations, oversight of fund administrator and custodian, regulatory reporting requirements such as RG97, ICRs, and funds accruals. The central responsibility is to ensure the company continually meets its fiduciary and regulatory oblations and ensure the efficient operation of fund administration in line with our clients expectations as well as those of Legg Mason and its affiliate managers.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Responsible for the Fund operations via oversight of third party custody, fund accounting and tax activities in relation to the Funds including:

    • Process creation and oversight
    • Work with outsourced providers to design and implement core processes that are compliant and understood by all
    • Ensure appropriate controls, SLA’s and ongoing oversight are in place to monitor delivery of required processes
    • Conduct regular reviews to ensure each process is fit for purpose, is consistent with contractual responsibilities and is efficient
    • Support the set-up and establishment of new Funds and structures
    • Stay abreast of industry and regulatory developments and provide recommendations for operational response to changes such as AMIT, TOFA, RG97 etc.
    • Oversight the half year and annual statutory reporting, semi-annual board reporting, distribution process, and annual tax return process   
    • Oversight of Key Performance Indicators relating to the Custodian and any other external service providers to be able to assist with the monitoring program of these external service providers
    • Preparation of new operational policies and procedures and where required the review and updating of existing operational policies and procedures
    • Fund Unit Pricing including:
      • Oversight of the Unit Pricing process to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements
      • Post release checks of Unit Prices prepared by Fund Administrator
      • Ensure the accurate distribution of unit prices to internal & external stakeholders
    • Fund Distributions
      • Agree in conjunction with investment management teams distribution timetable
      • Collate and disseminated fund level distribution data to internal and external stakeholders
      • Tax Return & Tax Treatment
      • Oversight of provision of all trust tax returns
      • Primary liaison with ATO for Fund tax matters including applying for TFN’s, etc.
      • Review and approve GST applicability
      • Oversee lodgment BAS returns by Fund Administrator
    • Governance
      • Complete Risk Control Self-Assessment for Fund Operations Function
      • Participate in board committees as required
    • Other Duties
      • Support client service teams in delivering clear and effective responses to client queries including in relation to regulatory change such as RG97
      • Support the operational assessment and set-up of new products
      • Ensure Fund range is well place to maximise the benefit of AMIT and TOFA

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree in related field preferable
    • A minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience
    • Knowledge of financial markets
    • Ability to demonstrate sound market knowledge and interest
    • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills
