    If you are tech and data savvy and enjoy working on process improvement and automation projects, this is for you!  Legg Mason continues to modernize its technical framework from a tech and business perspective and is in pursuit of a highly motivated Data Governance Analyst to join our small, growing team. 


    The Data Governance Analyst delivers three essential services to Legg Mason: 


    1. Data Governance:  Coordinating data governance across various business and technology departments, serving as the primary owner and user of the data governance tool infrastructure to include meta-data management, business glossary, data catalog and data lineage tools.
    2. Data Quality:  Ensuring fit for purpose data quality capabilities are identified and implemented across all data domains, including defining and drafting business rules for critical data elements and reporting and actioning results of data quality checks.  
    3. Process improvement and Automation:  Providing workflow automation support for business partners, including creating and supporting automation workflows using tools like Alteryx and Xceptor.

    Candidates must work and communicate effectively with business users and serve as a power user of data and analytics technology tools.  This is a quickly evolving space at Legg Mason and across the asset management industry, so flexibility is critical.


    Key Responsibilities:

    •  Drive Data Governance standards across all data domains via ‘use case’ delivery and special projects, ensuring business data needs are met on a timely basis
    • Support and maintain the implementation of data policies & standards, business rules, data definitions, testing depth & data quality controls
    • Manage process within our data governance and metadata inventory tools throughout data lifecycle. Data onboarding & data change management workflows
    • Maintenance of business terms and definitions, technical metadata, data linage & business transformation rules. Ensure metadata is clear & concise and certified by the Business and Technical Stewards
    • Perform data quality analysis and develop automated business solutions to make sure all the data meet six-dimension data quality rules including Timeliness, Completeness, Uniqueness, Validity, Consistency & Accuracy across all internal core data sources, external facing public websites and 3rd party product databases
    • Work directly with Business Data Stewards to develop less complex business rules and data quality controls, that can be deployed via Alteryx or other tools
    • Work directly with Technical Stewards to develop requirements for complex data quality controls that are then implemented via the LM Technology team
    • Partner with Data Management Group and Data Stewards to ensure implementation of data quality controls. Support & guide development and management of data quality dashboards, scorecards, metrics and reports as required for assigned domains/stewards
    • Proactively develop workflow automation using tools such as Alteryx and/or Xceptor. Manage and administer existing production workflows
    • Provide training for Data Stewards and Business users on the development, deployment and usage of workflow automation tools
    • Work across business departments to identify automation opportunities, establish project scope, estimates and target completion dates
    • Manage sprint development/demand backlog via JIRA, and provide status updates on all active projects
    • Participate in efforts to drive adoption of data governance process and usage of data governance and data automation tools
    • Support additional projects as required, working with management & technology to implement process enhancement linked to key Data Governance initiatives


    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 1-5 years’ experience in a similar data or tech role; recent grads with related data/tech coursework or internship experience will also be considered
    • Experience working within the Financial Services industry a strong plus
    • Experience working with large amounts of data and data analytics tools, specifically in data management and/or data operations functions
    • Experience in process monitoring, data quality management, master data, business & technical metadata, data profiling, codesets data management a plus
    • Experience developing and writing data policies, standards, and procedures preferred but not required
    • Familiar with data governance concepts, roles and responsibilities (Data Stewards & Domain Owners), business glossaries, data catalogs, data lineage & data quality
    • Familiarity working with workflow automation tools, such as Xceptor and Alteryx, and specifically workflow development preferred
    • Experience in Python programming, including data analytics (Pandas), APIs (JIRA REST API, Tableau Server REST API) a strong plus. Knowledge or Python required.
    • Experience or exposure in Tableau dashboard development techniques preferred
    • Excellent communication skills. Ability to work efficiently & effectively in a time critical environment, meeting day to day business deliverables as well as assisting the team in project deliverables.
